To protect and raise awareness, on June 8th we celebrate Oceans Day. Therefore, we will share five easy ways to help us preserve and keep the Ocean safe.
Now, close your eyes and imagine a dazzling sunset in front of you, the breeze stroking your face, a tickling sensation caused by the sand and the ocean water so fresh you almost forget the heat of the sun. But when you open your eyes that paradise is attacked by cigar butts, microplastics, glass, straws, aluminum cans, and garbage. Let’s not make it a reality.
1. Reduce your use of plastics
A great part of the waste that is found inside and close of the oceans is plastic. A severe consequence of the problem of plastics is “microplastics”. In other words, the fish and other organisms are able to ingest these particles and they don´t even notice. Consequently at the moment that we consume these animals in the food we are eating at the same time plastic.
2. Take care of the beaches
Every time that you go and enjoy the beach please deposit your waste in an appropriate place. If you see garbage around even though it isn´t yours pick it up. Everything counts.
3. Reduce CO2 emissions
The carbon dioxide affects the air but also the ocean. CO2 in great quantities increases the oceans acidity preventing organisms from forming their skeletons. Therefore, choose to motorized vehicles lessor take the bus, turn off the lights and disconnect the plugs of home appliances. Those are excellent options to reduce the CO2.
4. Sustainable fishing
Overfishing has caused a great threat to marine biodiversity and the balance in the food chain. In such a way that if we continue like this, by 2048 there will be no more fish. Opting for a sustainable fishing model is essential to stop these negative effects on the ocean.
5. Support organizations in favor of the oceans
There are many organizations that work together for the care of the oceans, such as Greenpeace, 4Ocean, Sea Shepherd … Supporting them in volunteering or promotion never hurts.
So now do not imagine, do not close your eyes. Open them. Admire the beauty of that turquoise blue immensity that surrounds you, but also take care of it, protect it. Let’s celebrate together Oceans Day!
